It’s no surprise that tourism spending is a big deal in Wisconsin’s Event City, but a close look at the dollars can still be pretty eye-opening. According to the most recent research commissioned by the state Department of Tourism, direct spending by visitors totaled more than $219 million in 2013. This represented a 5.6 percent increase over the year before and the 10th-largest amount of Wisconsin Counties. According to the report, business sales totaled $412 million, a 4.6 percent increase. Tourism spending supported more than 4,700 jobs, a 2.5 percent increase over the prior year. Labor income totaled $116 million, a 6.3 percent increase.
This spending benefits everyone in the Oshkosh area, as visitors generate $28.7 million in state and local taxes during their visits.
New figures will be released in coming months that will likely show an even larger spending boost in 2014.
