The increasing popularity of winter activities is something to keep in mind when we market the Oshkosh area.
The Associated Press recently reported that a number of downhill ski resorts have decided that it’s not enough to simply market themselves as downhill ski resorts. They are diversifying, offering activities like ice skating or cross-country skiing. This helps expand their market and broaden their appeal – they can market themselves as a destination that’s fun for the whole family. The tactic makes sense and there is a lot of cross-over between winter activities. According to the SnowSports Industries America (SIA) trade association, 40 percent of the people who cross-country skied last winter were also alpine skiers.
What does this mean to Oshkosh?
Our amenities help make this a complete winter destination. Here, a family can find outstanding shopping minutes from world-class ice fishing. Fun places to go tobogganing are also in our community, as are groomed cross country ski trails and outdoor skating rinks. We have Lake Winnebago, a tremendous asset for activities like fishing and ice boating. Our parks offer more options for winter fun and are great for activities like snowshoeing and bird watching.
We have something fantastic to market: Wisconsin’s Event City offers something for everyone.
