Find February Fun in Oshkosh

It’s February, and that means another month of cold, snowy weather, but don’t let that get you down. You may be surprised to find out that February is one of the busiest months of the year in Oshkosh! Whether indoors or outdoors, there are plenty of events and activities to keep you busy during the month.

The first weekend of February sets the pace with three different events to satisfy both the indoor and outdoor enthusiast. More than 60 quality dealers and collectors of antique and collector grade merchandise will be at the Sunnyview Expo Center to sell, buy and trade. You can warm-up for the Battle on Bago ice fishing tournament at the OSFC Winter Fisheree by Menominee Park or you can enjoy more than 30 skiplanes at the annual EAA Skiplane Fly-In.

February’s second weekend picks-up right where the first weekend left off. Fill all of your fishing needs during the Northeast Wisconsin Sport Fishin’ Show at the Sunnyview Expo Center. A great family-friendly event at the Leach Amphitheater, the Heart of Winter Festival, will feature activities for all ages including ice sculptures, craft fair, dog mushing and petting zoo. Accompanying the festival with be the 2nd Annual Snowflake Shuffle Fun Run and Walk.

The annual Polar Plunge in Miller’s Bay highlights weekend number three. Proceeds from this popular event go toward supporting the Wisconsin Special Olympics. The Sunnyview Expo Center will host the Oshkosh Gun Show and the Oshkosh Community Players will present a new show at the Grand Opera House, Almost, Maine. The show will run during the third and fourth weekends of February.

Battle on BagoAs the month comes to an end, the biggest event of the winter comes to Lake Winnebago. The Midwest’s largest ice fishing tournament, Battle on Bago, puts an exclamation on the month. With more than $275,000 in prizes and the structure of how you can win a prize, everyone has a chance to go home a winner! If you would like to stay indoors, the 35th Annual Echoes of the Past Historical Trade Fair is also taking place on the same weekend at the Sunnyview Expo Center.

If you are looking to do something mid-week, don’t worry. There are three ongoing exhibits taking place during February. The EAA AirVenture Museum is hosting a rare, one-of-a-kind collection of WWII nose art during the entirety of 2016. You can experience what it’s like to be an actual dinosaur at the Oshkosh Public Museum’s new exhibit, Be the Dinosaur. Virtual-reality technology allows people of all ages to explore the land of the dinosaurs. The Paine Art Center and Gardens blooms early this year as the Joye Moon Watercolor exhibit features beautiful paintings of flowers and nature.

We can’t forget to mention the monthly Oshkosh Gallery Walk and Downtown Night Out, the weekly, Saturday morning Farmers Markets and hilarious improve at the Backlot Comedy House – just to name a few.
