It's May – Time to Play

Just as April showers bring May flowers, let the May events in Oshkosh help you get out and blossom this spring. Your favorite places are opening their doors, setting a place for you on their patios and staying open a little longer for your enjoyment. Start today and make this May memorable.

May kicks off with a couple kick-off festivals. Enjoy a Kids’Fest Kick-Off Carnival at the Children’s Amusements Center and the Menominee Park Zoo. The weekend is also going to the birds as the annual Oshkosh Bird Fest takes flight at Menominee Park and a new exhibit opens at the Paine Art Center and Gardens.  The Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway starts a new race season and Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang comes to the Grand Opera House.

Downtown Oshkosh is the place to be on first Saturday of this month, and every month. Saturday Night Out in downtown Oshkosh is a monthly event that offers art, shopping, sales, classes, music, food and drink specials, comedy, movies and special attractions at downtown businesses. It also features the monthly Oshkosh Gallery Walk.

Week two picks up where week one left off. Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang are back for a second weekend. Writers and book enthusiasts can enjoy the Lakefly Writer’s Conference. The annual Spring Parade of Homes gets underway and horse show season is in full swing as the 4-H Horse Show comes to Sunnyview.

The third week of May gives us a sure sign of spring as the annual Festival of Spring highlights the weekend. Horse and dog shows come to the Sunnyview Expo Center and the Spring Parade of Homes wraps up its final weekend. Terry’s Bar is hosting its annual walleye tournament out on Lake Winnebago. The Slow Roll kicks off this week and gives bicycle riders a chance to get together and explore Oshkosh on two wheels. Explore Oshkosh even further during the Downtown Oshkosh Enjoy Local experience.

The end of May finishes off with a variety of great events. Walleye anglers from across the country will compete on Lake Winnebago for the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour. The Greater Raider Softball Tournament brings softball teams from around the area to compete at Menominee Park. The weekend wouldn’t be complete without the Memorial Day Classic Horse Show and the Memorial Day Parade. This week is also host to the first Ardy and Ed’s Cruise Night of the season.

If you are looking for something to do on a rainy spring day, head over to see the Rare WWII Nose Art Exhibit at the EAA, Be the Dinosaur at the Oshkosh Public Museum or visit the free Military Veterans Museum. Check out everything May has to offer on the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau’s online event calendar. Events and activities are added to the calendar every week. Enjoy!
