Beautiful Winter Walks

gallery walkOshkosh is a city that’s great for walkers year-round. This activity is perfect for nature lovers. Surrounding wildlife areas provide excellent habitat and ensure that there are always lots of beautiful birds to see in and around Oshkosh. During the winter, wild spaces are absent of foliage and it’s a particularly good time to view wildlife.

In town, a winter walk can be the perfect way to spend some time with a friend or loved one.

Check out these three places to take a winter stroll in Oshkosh.

Option 1: A trail hike.

The Wiouwash State Trail is a great place for walkers who like to cover some ground. This two-section, 75-mile rail trail stretches from Birnamwood to Oshkosh. In the winter, when there’s snow, this trail is open to snowmobiling. Walkers and snowshoers are also welcome and don’t need a permit.

You can find the main parking lot for the trail in Winnebago County off Westwind Road, near the intersection of State Highways 41 and 45.

Option 2: The Gallery Walk

Lovers of art and shopping should be sure to catch the Oshkosh Gallery Walk. This free and fun event takes place the first Saturday of every month. Dozens of local art galleries and businesses showcase the talents of local, regional and touring artists. Learn about upcoming walks here.

Option 3: The Riverwalk

There’s a pleasant place to take a winter stroll in downtown Oshkosh. The Riverwalk follows the edge of the Fox River and provides a tranquil, picturesque walking option with easy access to downtown lodging, restaurants and shopping. It’s a perfect place for a morning walk or an evening stroll after dinner.
